Once in a while as a baby photographer, you get a baby who just does not want to miss out on all the goings on in the studio.  We have tricks to get them off to sleep…but on occasion you can have every white noise app in the world going on and the baby will not sleep. That’s ok! Lightning doesn’t strike twice as they say!  But wee Mollie likes to rewrite scripts.  She clearly heard on the grapevine that her big sister Kara did not sleep at her newborn shoot and realised that she had big shoes to fill.  Mollie, believe me, has staying power! Once she sets her mind to something she follows though with it!! I love this look … “Sorry…you expect me to what??” I think she is saying! “Oh no…sorry not today thank you!”

However a couple of hours later, after lots of milk, lots of warmth and a ridiculous amount of mummy rocking and cuddling, mummy finally won and Mollie slept…for about ten minutes – but sometimes it is all we need! Actually I don’t want to mislead you with that middle image – I’m fairly sure she was wide awake and it was just good eye closing timing!

Anyway – life would be boring if they all just dropped off to sleep straight away! I like a challenge!  The next challenge was to get Mollie’s adorable two-year-old sister Kara to pose with her little sister..I love this little image of her examining her baby sister and I love that they have the same facial expressions. They are an adorable duo who I have no doubt will be keeping mummy on her  toes for some time to come!

Pop over to the contact me page to find out more information on newborn shoots or the ages I  recommend having photos taken of your precious bundles during their first year.

Here is me (probably for one day only) making a concerted effort to catch up on my blog….all 7 months of it! And I start with Baby Ethan – who was a cutesy little newborn who brought his two big brothers along for the ride! Mum loved the little viking hat by Verity Isabelle so that was a must have in the photographs. And little Ethan slept like a little log on the cosy blanket.

I am most definitely of the opinion that it must take one special mummy to look after three special boys like this! Hats off to her!

Finally Mum, Claire really wanted a photo of Ethan in my teacup! I really tried but he was just a little too big to fit – must be a fairly common third baby hazard.  But with a little bit of photoshop magic, we managed to get the shot that mum really wanted!

2014-09-25_0003Your baby is only this tiny for a very short period of time, so you are interested in a Newborn Baby Photoshoot please don’t hesitate to get in contact.  The best time to book is after your twenty week scan.   I know it can seem silly booking pictures of a baby who has not yet put in their appearance, but we schedule a date around 8 days after your due date and then move it around if necessary.  I prefer to photograph babies under two weeks where possible, but have done up to six weeks. Obviously bear in mind that the older they are the bigger they might be and the less buckets and props they might fit in!! Often fitting babies in once they have arrived can be a little tricky so do get in touch early!

I look forward to hearing from you!

I love this little face! Little Georgia came along recently for the second of her baby milestone photoshoots.  She was quite the little poser, with the most adorable expressions!

My favourite image from this shoot, though has to be of Georgia wearing a little owl hat that she had been given as a gift!  I love that she seems to do a little owl expression to match her hat! Moments like this in photography are priceless!

I was thrilled to enter this image into The Guild of Photographers International Competition and receive a bronze award for it! Thank you Georgia!

To get the most out of photographs of your baby and the best value for money, I recommend baby photographs at specific milestones. Newborn photographs normally take place when your baby if under two weeks old, when they are still all curly and sleepy – hopefully!  I am happy though to discuss doing baby images up to 6 weeks.  After that it is nice to get some images at about 4 months, when they have a variety of different facial expressions and are starting to enjoy tummy time.  At this age though, I think a mini shoot works best so we are not asking them to be patient for too long!

Baby Photographer Edinburgh

For the next big photoshoot photographs at about 7 months old are ideal – when your baby is sitting firmly and beaming their little heads off!!  Such a precious age!  Finally you can top this off with a birthday shoot and cake smash!  I am also looking forward to my first bubble bath shoot very soon!

If you are looking for photographs at a different milestone I am always happy to discuss and advise what is best so that you get a good variety of images!  At 7 months and a year, we normally use a range of different backdrops during the shoot…the possibilities are endless!

If you are interested in photographs of your little one or little ones, why not get in touch?  I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Now most of you will know, if you have had a shoot with me, that after my babies, my next most favourite thing is my props.  You have no idea how excited I get over them (OK ..OK so you will if you have been in the studio!)! So imagine you have been looking for a prop for a year…maybe more… not one that you want to buy online because they come in all different shapes and sizes and getting the wrong one would be an expensive mistake!!

Now imagine my delight when just before Christmas (on the way to see Frozen) I spotted a stall that sold just what I was looking for!!  I was a little unsure if it was the perfect one and the stallholder was very busy but said that he had more in his warehouse if I could pop back later.  So after watching the epic Frozen…I charged down the stairs HOPING that he would still be there and he was – with a delightful array of bowls that perfectly fitted my brief! This was a GOOD day!

And little newborn, Alexander modelled it most perfectly!

I also recently stumbled across a stunning hat maker in the US. After my initial order, I try my very hardest not to look at her page as such stunningness does not come cheap!! But I absolutely adore her hats…and I think Alexander was quite at home at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party!

I could share images of this young man for hours…maybe more later!

If you are looking for a Newborn Photographer in Edinburgh, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
